Mitchelville

 

 

The Mitchelville Preservation Project aspires to develop an internationally recognized destination called Freedom Park that tells the story of the first self-governed freedman’s town in America. WDM was chosen as the marketing group to bring this story to life - a challenge we readily accepted with open hearts and minds. Our approach has been to add an emotional element to the historic location that has attracted visitors from around the world.   

We started by employing our proven WDM methodology and gathering input from key stakeholders in order to understand the goals and objectives of the project. Then we dove right in to immerse ourselves in the history of the people of Mitchelville. We were directed to descendants of original Mitchelville residents and we knew we had hit marketing gold. The first promotional video we produced - which featured stories from these descendants - garnered a standing ovation at its premier showing at a Mitchelville board meeting. The new web site, along with development and marketing pieces that were subsequently created were met with equally glowing responses. The town is on its way to realizing the dream of Freedom Park, and the preservation of this important piece of Americana.
